How long can someone wait before using a gift card?

A fixed period starts when the card is issued
Amazon UK uses this model. The delivery email date may be later than issuance, so do not silently treat email arrival as day one.
Activity can move the date
Tesco UK ties expiry to the most recent use. A remaining balance therefore needs its last transaction date, not only the original receipt.
Keep the programme scope anyway
A no-expiry statement for Starbucks US or Sephora US/Canada does not establish the rule for every country or similarly named value product.

Give the recipient the evidence they need later

- The code or card record and original delivery email.
- The issue date when it is known.
